Doors of Matera, Italy

I have an odd fascination with old doors, windows, door knockers and details. The older and more beaten up and rusty, the better! And the charming little town of Matera, Italy had so many amazing doors that I could’ve stayed there for hours admiring them all! Here are a few of my favourites. 2. I love old doors too. There are so many things you can do to repurpose them. Or you can actually use them to make a serious statement to your home.

I like the shabby chic look that’s going on in this pics. I think that’s what it isncalled, I am so NOT into design but that’s what it looks like to me. I love it.

  4. Doors used to have meaning. The door indicated who lived inside and the beliefs the person had. These doors indicate that very well.

  7. Tell me about it…why are doors so fascinating? My guess is because they represent the eyes of the home…reveal something intrinsic about the inside. Love the photos.

I don’t think it’s an odd fascination at all! They are gorgeous. Just makes me wonder who’s been going through them all these years!

Beautiful doors. My father in law are fascinated with door handles and has hundreds of door handles around the house. A lot are really beautiful.

  11. I love that! I always take pictures of doors. The rusty, shabby ones are the best. And, of course, the coloured one.

I would love to have a small obsession of something when I travel to see how different and beautiful things are around the world…I.e doors or fun houses or even flowers etc. Although not the biggest fan of history or architecture, these doors are amazing!

  19. I love old doors! I want to start collecting old lock. I think they are so beautiful. That also reminds me that I want to actually want to get a knocker for my from door. Especially the ones that are like lions staring you in the face and they are scary they make you not even want to use them.

This post is breaking my heart. I am going to Italy in a few days. I wanted so badly to go to Matera. I can only get as close as Lecce this time. I wondered if maybe I’d get to Matera and wonder why it felt so important. But no! It turns out even the doors are neat.
