I have an odd fascination with old doors, windows, door knockers and details. The older and more beaten up and rusty, the better! And the charming little town of Matera, Italy had so many amazing doors that I could've stayed there for hours admiring them all! Here are a few of my favourites.
Located in Italy's southern region of Basilicata, Matera is one of the most interesting and unusual cities in all of Italy. Never heard of it? I'm not surprised. This still relatively unknown town is one of Southern Italy's best kept secrets - but not for long! Matera has been inhabited for 9,000 years and is best known for its extensive cave-dwelling districts, the sassi. It's stunning beauty and storied history will make a lasting impression on each and every visitor.
When most people think about a trip to Italy, they picture the canals of Venice, the Duomo in Florence, the ruins in Rome or the breathtaking cliffs of the Amalfi Coast. But those who dare to venture even further south are in for an amazing treat if they are wise enough to add the charming little town of Tropea to their list!
