5 Instagram-worthy Coffee Shops in Toronto

One of the first things I always do when visiting any new city is seek out the best coffee shops. Toronto has so many amazing coffee shops it’s hard to choose just one favorite. So instead, I embarked on a mission to try as many of Toronto’s coffee shops as I could. Here are a few of my favourite instagram-worthy coffee shops:

1. Sorry Coffee Co – Located at 102 Bloor Street behind Kit & Ace, this Yorkville coffee shop may be small, but it packs a mighty punch. Expertly decorated with black chevron tiles and gold accents, this trendy coffee shop feels right at home in high-class Yorkville. It’s clever name, an ode to the face that Canadians are overly polite, and the fact that every few months, Sorry partners with a new local artist to create a new design for their coffee cups, keeps Sorry feeling fresh and fun. Sorry features a simple menu of traditional coffee drinks and croissants. Order yourself a flat white and grab one of the few seats inside – or take your cup outside and enjoy the park in Yorkville Village. But, leave your cash at home as they only accept digital payment.

2. Quantum Coffee – Located at 460 King Street, in the heart of downtown, Quantum offers a carefully curated selection of single-origin beans from across the globe. This minimalist, modern coffee shop is bright and white with modern lighting and futuristic gold accents. Quantum offers a nice selection of coffee, teas, juices and pastries. The baristas are super friendly and make a killer cold brew and a fantastic latte. For a real treat, order the “Quantum Plank,” a featured coffee drink that rotates every 90 days. This season’s feature is a creme brûlée cappuccino – absolutely delicious!

3. Rooster Coffee House – Rooster has 3 locations in Toronto, all with very different vibes, but all worthy of snapping a photo for Instagram along with your coffee order! In addition to making fabulous coffee, the employees are all extra friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The Jarvis location (pictured below) is a beautifully light, open space with exposed pipes and beams and beautiful hanging globe lights. Order yourself a latte, grab one of the delectible caramel sea salt brownies and head upstairs to the relax in the gorgeous loft area,  where you can plug in and watch the baristas below work their craft.

4. Goldstruck – Located at 130 Cumberland Street, Goldstuck is a relative newcomer to Toronto’s coffee scene. A gorgeous basement coffee shop decorated in rich, deep browns, wooden accents and stunning light features, Goldstruck is warm, cozy and makes you want to sit down and stay a while. Goldstruck promises that you’ll only enjoy beans that have been roasted 72 hours ago or less and uses organic and fair trade items. Order yourself something you won’t find at any other coffee shop in the city, such as a halva latte or a vanilla raf, and enjoy a good book at one of the individual tables – or chat it up with the baristas, who are always super-friendly and willing to chat!

5. Dark Horse Espresso Bar – Dark Horse, one of Toronto’s original Indie coffee shops, has now become a mini-chain with 6 locations. However, unlike other chains, each location, as well as their coffee and pastries, are unique and all worthy of snapping a photo! Today I’m dishing about the Riverside location at 630 Queen East. As you walk into this bright and airy coffee bar, you’ll encounter vaulted ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, industrial features and beautiful hanging lights. Order yourself up an oversized latte and a giant cinnamon roll (make sure you ask them to heat it up), find yourself a seat at one of the beautiful large, wooden communal tables, and be prepared to be blown away.

  1. It is nice that you mention so many coffee places. I liked the fact that Sorry changes its theme every few months. However, which among the five would you recommend if you want to drink a cup of delicious coffee?

  3. I LOVE beautiful, cozy, unique coffee shops! All of these look like the kind of place I’d love to hang out and work or read a book. I had a friend who lived in Toronto for a few years and she would rave about the coffee scene. These coffee shops appear to be reason enough to visit Toronto ASAP!

  10. I’m not much of a coffee person but am always on the lookout for the perfect Earl Grey Tea Late! I had one out West once that had lavender added to it and haven’t been able to find one since – what are the chances you’ve seen one in your travels?!

    1. I have actually! In Canada, they’re called London Fog and I’ve actually had some really amazing ones. That might be a great idea for a next post!

  15. I like Sorry Coffee Co and Dark Horse Espresso Bar the most. I haven’t been to USA so far and I hope to go sometime in future. Thanks for this list and when I visit Toronto, hope to check out these cafes!!!

  20. Is it Industrial design popular in Toronto or it is your personal favorite? My favorite burger place is designed very similar and I just love it! I can imagine myself sipping coffee in Sorry for hours.

    1. You’ll find everything in Toronto, but I’m personally drawn to the lofty, industrial, open and minimalist spaces. I’m kind of a design geek that way!

  21. As a coffee and tea addict, I like visiting coffee shops and tea rooms while traveling. I am especially fond of cafés in Vienna, where Café Central takes a special place in my heart.

    I like the Sorry’s concept of partnering every few months with a new local artist to create a new design for their coffee cups! New coffee cups design is like a new surprise.

  24. Ahhh Lynne are you from Toronto!? I am so jealous, I LOVE Toronto. I’m a Red Wings fan and can’t stand Maple Leafs fans BUT….otherwise I love the city, haha!   34. You mentioned the Jarvis location of the Rooster, but my personal fave is the Broadview location (OG!), especially on a warm spring day, on the patio. The view over Riverdale Park is amazing.

    Ezra’s Pound on Dupont or The Walton on College are like stepping back in time. I’ve regularly been sitting and having an afternoon relax while listening to Ella Fitzgerald or Edith Piaf. The Walton’s patio is particularly gorgeous, and they have heat lamps and blankets for those brave enough to hang out in wintertime.

    Sam James may just have the best coffee in all of the city, too. Their newest Queen St location is the most lovely, and you always have the option of wandering across the street to sit in Bellwoods with your coffee.
